Watch this space for upcoming opportunities to join teams of 3-4 kids to create LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robots to solve fun and interesting challenges.

You will learn to design, program, test and refine your robot to chain together a series of programmed behaviors to complete various missions, in a non-competitive environment.

The Spring, 2011 Challenge, offered for residents of Monterey County, was themed around behavior-based robotics and was called Wild and Woolly: a Walk on the Wild Side. Participants researched animals on the Web and via the supplied Zoo Tycoon 2 software, then designed, built and programmed their robotic animal to exhibit behaviors unique to that animal, triggered by using sensors to detect different colors on the surface of their 4' by 8' "zoo". They also used a supplied craft kit to "decorate" their animal and to accessorize their zoo, providing a perfect blend of engineering, art, design, collaborative skills, problem solving and critical thinking. The participants displayed their creative achievements at a Public Exhibition at a large venue in Monterey County.

To get an idea of how these activities work, please check out the KSBW-TV Segment produced for the Fall, 2010 Challenge.

In the Fall, Learn to Discover offers an official Challenge released by FIRST LEGO League (FLL), and in the Spring, we offer a Challenge that we have designed here at Learn to Discover.
